You’re in for a chilly reception in the third installment in the Fireboy and Watergirl series, Ice Temple. The wintery environment may leave you with frozen fingers, but victory is like a raging fire that will melt away the bitter cold of defeat. If you can win the game, that is.

Fireboy and Watergirl find themselves exploring the ruins of an icy temple, collecting gems and solving puzzles as they go. 36 brand new levels bring all your favorite elements back with a few twists. Bundle up; it’s going to get subarctic up in here.

Players of the previous two games will have an easy time figuring out the control scheme because it’s exactly the same. For new players, two added tutorial levels allow you to settle in to all-new gameplay, so fans both old and new can enjoy it. Another familiar feature of the game is the task of collecting gems. Red gems can only be picked up by Fireboy, and vice versa with the blue gems for Watergirl.

However, you’ll find that things are not as easy as they appear. Since Watergirl is made from, well… water… she gets slowed down by her cold environment. Fireboy, on the other hand, gets a burst of energy walking through the snowy halls. Watergirl’s only advantage comes from slopes where she can go a bit faster, and of course Fireboy is impeded by this obstacle. Either will die if they touch the ice. Get them through the levels with teamwork in order to get them to their exit doors.

Whether you decide to go it alone or invite a friend for some impromptu multiplayer using separate keyboard controls, Fireboy and Watergirl: Ice Temple is a fun time to be had. You’ll love the new level designs and familiar elements that made the game a success in the first place. Once you’re done with the game, it’s time to move on to the fourth installment!
